The service from the BCP is laid out with explanations of various parts of the service and an introduction to each section; illustrations; helpful in teaching younger children about the service of Holy Communion and about Baptism

 

Holy Communion for Children - Church Hymnal Corporation, New York NY

A discussion of the Eucharist by sections; includes explanation plus some extra prayers and scriptures for children to use; nicely illustrated.

 

A Eucharistic Manual for Children - by Eileen Garrison and Gayle Albanese, Morehouse Publishing

Examines the service, piece by piece, giving explanations for each prayer and sentence; includes baptism; includes sketches; includes both Rite I and Rite II; between the two Rites, there is a glossary, a discussion of the Church Year, and drawings of various vestments

 

My Communion Book - National Society/Church House Publishing, (England)

Short explanations about the service; mostly illustrations; shows racial and gender diversity.

Preparation for First Communion

This Bread & This Cup – Mary Lee Wile, Living the Good News, Denver CO; 2005

Including both a Leader’s Guide and Child’s book, this series is to help instruct children in the Episcopal Church about the Eucharist. It may be used prior to a child’s First Communion, but it may also be used with a Sunday School class of 2nd to 3rd graders who are already taking the Eucharist. Wile talks about both the theology behind the Eucharist in terms the children can understand and about the actual practice-what happens and what they are to do. As with the other sets she has done, Wile presents a clear and sound discussion of the sacraments in the Episcopal Church.
