Diocese of Eastern Michigan

*New* Powerful Persuasion – Tex Sample, Abingdon Press, Nashville TN; 2005

Sample, one of the “gurus” of modern digital worship experiences, talks about how to use multimedia (and multiple learning styles) in the worshipping community. He starts by emphasizing how important it is for every Christian to know THE Story (the Bible and the Christian story) and to know their own story as a part of it. Then he goes on to describe how image, sound, beat, light, movement and dance can help us take in more fully THE Story through our worship. He recognizes that not everyone is ready to take a leap into all of this at once and shows ways to do bits of it. A very interesting book offering much to think about.

*New* Re-Pitching the Tent – Richard Giles, The Liturgical Press, Collegeville MN; 1999

Re-Pitching the Tent looks at our actual worship space and how we can make it more inviting and usable for worship. The author begins with a history of worship and then describes how we might look at our buildings and see if they are adequately serving their purpose(s). There are many pictures showing before and after shots to show how to make the worship space more welcoming.
